Truck Full of Hagfish Crashes in Oregon

Hagfish. Slime eel. Whatever you call them, these fish are disgusting.

Why? Because they produce a ridiculous amount of goo. And hagfish are really disgusting when you hit them with a car.

That's what happened on Oregon Highway 101 on July 13, 2017.

Oregon State Police say a truck carrying a full load of the slimy buggers slammed into the back of a sedan. Few details are available about the crash, but we do know the hagfish were bound for South Korea. There, the fish were intended to be dinner for some folks.

zInstead, they ended up all over the road, the car and the truck. And guess when the creatures produce the most slime? When they're stressed.

So, most likely each hagfish produced the maximum amount of goo it could during the incident.

Scientists say the fish can release, get this, up to 5.25 gallons of the sticky mucus. And since they can't survive long out of the water, most likely the slime eels died.

Wonder who got clean-up duty for that one?
