Nuro and Kroger Are Now Self-Driving Milk and Eggs in Scottsdale, Arizona

Grocery giant Kroger and self-driving startup Nuro are now partnering to deliver groceries in the Scottsdale, Ariz. area

The partnership will take place at a single Kroger location, Fry's Food Stores, where orders can be placed starting Aug. 16, with customers opting for same or next-day delivery for $6 by one of Nuro's autonomous cars, an equipped Toyota Prius or Nissan Leaf with a human operator behind the wheel.

As the project progresses, Nuro will switch to one of its flagship R1 driverless delivery vehicles.

"Arizona is home to some of the most innovative autonomous vehicle testing," said Nuro co-founder Dave Ferguson.

"We're proud to contribute and turn our vision for local commerce into a real, accessible service that residents of Scottsdale can use immediately. Our goal is to save people time while operating safely and learning how we can further improve the experience."

A key differentiator between Nuro and Waymo, arguably the owners of the world's most technologically advanced self-driving platform, is Nuro's focus on transporting goods. Let's see if it can become a key player in the age of Amazon.
