Hennessey Exorcist: The 1,000-HP Chevy Camaro ZL1 With a 217 MPH Top Speed

It turns out cars of the future do fly, but they still need roads... plenty of roads!

Looking to tame the devilish Dodge Demon, Hennessey Performance has created a tuned version of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 called the Exorcist. This monster Camaro lays down 1,000 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60 less than three seconds and hit a top speed of 217 mph, which Hennessey claims makes it the world's faster sixth-gen Camaro.

Hennessey squeezed that much power from the Camaro ZL1 by adding a larger displacement supercharger, larger intercooler, CNC ported heads and camshaft, high-flow cold air induction system, stainless steel headers, high-flow catalytic converters, and a recalibrated engine computer.

The final engine rating is 1,000 horsepower and 883 lb-ft of torque, which is a considerable bumper from the stock Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that offers 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Equally impressive about the car's performance is that it did so with its factory transmission, wheels and tires.

"We wanted to see if the Exorcist could exceed the 213 MPH top speed of the Chevy Corvette ZR1. Mission accomplished," said John Hennessey, the founder and president of Hennessey Performance Engineering. "The Exorcist offers supercar performance while still retaining everything that you would want in a daily driver with a backseat and room for golf clubs in the trunk. It's kind of like having a new ZR1 Corvette with room for 4 people but faster."

The Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1's top speed was achieved at the 8.5-mile Continental Tire Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas, with driver Brian Smith from the Ford Performance Racing School behind the wheel. It sounds like if there were a longer straightaway, this car could have gone even faster.

In its base form, the Exorcist Camaro is priced starting at $119,950. This is quite a jump from the stock 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which starts at $61,500, but you get a lot of added performance for that money. Hennessey also offers optional features on the Exorcist such as drag radial tires, upgraded wheels, upgraded transmission and a track tool kit.
