New River Trail State Park

Situated 15 minutes from Main St. and Grayson St., New River Trail State Park is a 57-mile linear park that spans from the northeastern section in Pulaski to the southern section in Galax. The park treks along an abandoned railroad that follows the historic New River for 39 miles through four counties.

Complete with guided horseback rides, hikes, bikes, and more, the park boasts areas for boats to launch, a horse arena, fishing spots, and campsites. There are multiple places to access New River state park, which is easily accessible from Charlotte (2 hours), Knoxville (3 hours), and Winston-Salem (1 hour).
