The Mustang Bullitt isn?t the only Steve McQueen-piloted car being modernized this year.
Eight years ago, after buying Steve McQueen?s Hurst Baja Boot at auction, James Glickenhaus is using his Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus boutique supercar company to create a modern interpretation of this off-road buggy.
The SCG Boot is modeled after the Baja Boot that McQueen drove and won many races with in the ’60s.
The details are still being worked out, but SCG said that the Boot will run a naturally aspirated V-8 with 20 inches of rear wheel travel and options for two- and four-wheel drive configurations. Operating under NHTSA’s low-volume status, the SCG Boot will be street legal, and it will offer heat and A/C as well as left- and right-hand drive layouts. The Boot will come in two body styles: the four-door Expedition model and a two-door model, called the Steve.
Per NHTSA regulations, SCG is required to cap all vehicle production to less than 325 vehicles per year, so in addition to its other supercars, production of this Baja-blasting buggy will be extremely low. The SCG Boot is expected to go on sale in 2019 or 2020 with a price tag of around $100,000.
Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus already has publicity stunts/shakedown tests planned for the Boot, too. First, it plans to set a world record for altitude driven by a car by driving almost 23,000 feet up a South American volcano, and there could also be a long-distance drive as well from New York to Paris via the Bering Strait.
