Inside Look: See the Audi Virtual Mirror Demo on Youtube

Bye, traditional side view mirrors. Hello, virtual mirrors, thanks to Audi.

Audi has unveiled a virtual mirror demo on its official YouTube channel, demonstrating how the new Audi Virtual Mirror technology on the upcoming e-Tron works. The mirror essentially gives an outside look the interior of the car, offering driver and front passenger the opportunity to see what they would normally see if a car had normal outside mirrors.

Bringing Things Into Focus

The setup uses two small cameras feeding signals to 7-inch OLED touchscreens mounted near the door handles, with zoom in and out functionality along with the choice of three views depending on driving situations, including parking, turning, and highway driving.

Another icon also allows the driver to adjust the passenger mirror. Along with a revised atheistic, it also reduces drag coefficient and improves aerodynamics.

Look for these virtual mirrors to debut on the production version of the e-Tron. No word on when its release date will be, although it is expected within the next several years given regulations around keeping traditional mirrors.
