4 Random Facts About the Ford Ranger

With the Ford Ranger returning in 2019, here are a few random facts you might not know about it.

As you probably know, the Ford Ranger was discontinued after 2011. Fans of the popular compact pickup truck thought it would be gone forever when the last one was produced at Twin Cities Assembly in St. Paul, Minnesota. That was until Ford announced the Ranger's expected return in 2019.

Here are a few things you might not have known about America's favorite little truck.

It wasn't completely discontinued

In North America, yes, it was discontinued. Following the exodus from the U.S. and Canada, the Ranger was sold in 180 different countries around the world, where the demand for a smaller truck was still high.

The Ranger will return bigger than before

If you haven't seen pictures of the new Ranger yet, you'll notice it comes in a four-door option. This takes away from some of the advantages of the older, more compact models, but it also allows for a more comfortable fit for multiple passengers. However, Ford Argentina did introduce a four-door cab before the Ranger's discontinuation in 2011.

The Ranger you know was first built in 1983, but that wasn't the first Ranger

The compact pickup everyone is familiar with was first introduced in 1983, but the Edsel division of Ford produced a vehicle called the Ranger before that.

Produced in 1958, 1959 and 1960, the Edsel Ranger was a sedan, not a truck. However, Ford later brought the Ranger name back, which represented a styling package available for full-size truck models.

The Bronco is next in line

Ford already announced the Bronco will return in 2020, only a year after the Ranger's comeback. The Bronco was discontinued in 1996 and replaced by the Ford Expedition, which featured four doors.
