Tesla Semi-Truck Spotted Out in the California Wild

In this clip, one of Tesla's electric semi-trucks is spotted cruising down a Sacramento highway.

A fleet of Tesla Semis is performing inaugural runs, transporting battery packs on a 250-mile trip from Tesla's Nevada-based Gigafactory, its battery production facility, to a factory in Fremont, California, with Sacramento in the middle.

"Tesla will be the first customer for the truck. We will use our own truck to carry cargo in the US between our different facilities," said Tesla VP of truck programs Jerome Guillen at the Transport and Logistics conference in the Netherlands last year. "We have an assembly facility in California, the Gigafactory in Nevada, so we will use our trucks to carry things in-between."

Note that YouTube comments are lopsided, with roughly half of viewers commenting on the camera's awkward vertical shot, preventing a better view of the vehicle. One commenter, jason hranovsky, provides more insightful commentary, calling out its side view mirrors, which were missing from its launch model.

It remains to be seen how well Tesla's semi-truck handles full loads on its return to Nevada.
