Jay Leno Drives the New and Old Bullitt Mustang

Separated by 50 years, the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt is the perfect commemoration of the 1968 Mustang fastback.

Jay Leno always gets to drive the cool stuff, but for the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage, he gets to drive two versions of the Bullitt Mustang at the Ford Proving Grounds in Dearborn, Michigan.

First he hops behind the wheel of the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt, which isn't even out yet) before getting the chance to drive the exact 1968 Mustang that Steve McQueen drove in Bullitt.

Leno actually got to drive the 2019 Bullitt Mustang before it was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show, and the video does a great job of showing the car in action. Even better, we get an even better indication of how this car will sound with the active exhaust valve. Of course, we already saw the car in Ford's promo video for the car where Steve McQueen's granddaughter, Molly McQueen, recreates the iconic chase scene. This new video, while being equally scripted and slightly cheesier, does have the advantage of having the actual movie car.

After driving the 2019 Bullitt, Leno hops behind the wheel of original Bullitt Mustang... the one used in the movie! Talking to the car's current owner, his dad found it listed while flipping through car ads in 1974, and he bought it for $6,000. Adjusted for inflation is about $31,000 in today's money (don't listen to Leno). Best of all, this car is still in original condition.
