2019 Subaru Forester Teased Ahead of New York Auto Show

Subaru's next-gen Forester will debut in New York, and we like what we see so far.

The current Forester was a big hit for Subaru when it launched in 2012, but with the compact crossover segment hotter than ever, the fifth-gen Forester is arriving with perfect timing. The 2019 Subaru Forester will be introduced at the 2018 New York International Auto Show, and Subaru just dropped the first teaser of its new CUV.

So far, Subaru has only released the single, shadowy image of the new Forester's taillight, but it is a promising glimpse nonetheless. The C-shaped LED taillights resemble the rear end of the 2015 Subaru VIZIV Future Concept, although the cut lines for the liftgate appear more conventional like the Ascent.

Speaking of the Ascent, the addition of that three-row midsize crossover could allow Subaru to get a little more creative with the design and function of the new Forester. Expect it to be roomier than the current model to better compete with its rivals.

The 2019 Subaru Forester will ride on a modified version of the new Subaru Global Platform, which underpins the Ascent. Subaru essentials like Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, four-cylinder Boxer engine, and the latest EyeSight driver assistance system will give the new Forester bragging rights in this segment.

Subaru will announce more details about the 2019 Subaru Forester by the end of this month including its on-sale date.
